UChicago Medicine Nursing Research

Nursing research is poised to advance UChicago Medicine’s mission of providing superior health care in a compassionate manner. We believe that research is a key element of professional nursing practice and a vital component of excellence in nursing care. Our Nurse Scientists provide guidance and support to nurses to facilitate the implementation of evidence-based nursing practices. Both evidence-based practice and research efforts at UChicago Medicine are aimed at building new nursing knowledge, supporting evidence-based decision-making, providing quality and cost-effective patient care, and promoting innovation to advance the way we deliver patient care.

Nurse scientists collaborate with UChicago Medicine staff, University of Chicago scientists from a variety of disciplines, and other experts across the nation to generate knowledge that will impact patients here and beyond. Nursing research at UChicago Medicine is bridging the gap between knowledge and practice, bringing research to the bedside, and improving the patient experience.

Nursing research priorities include:

  • Pain and symptom management across the lifespan
  • Optimizing the quality and safety of patient care
  • Addressing disparities in care delivery and outcomes
